Pvt. Asa N. Douglass (CP 1208), National Museum of Health and Medicine

Description: Private Asa N. Douglass, Co. G, 7th Maryland volunteers, displaying the gunshot wound received at the battle of South Side railroad, Virginia on April 1st, 1865. Caption reads: “Gunshot wound of thigh, sloughing of wnd. Pvt. A. N. Douglass Co. G, 7” Md.”

History on reverse: "Lincoln U.S. General Hospital. Washington, D.C., June 2nd, 1865. Pavilion 5. Bed 31.—Name Asa N. Douglass, private Co. G 7th Md. Volunteers. Admitted to Hospital April 11th, 1865. He received a gunshot wound of right thigh at the battle of South Side R.R., Va., April 1st, 1865; the ball entering four inches below trochanter major and emerging near the femoral artery. Admitted to Pavilion 5, May 8th, 1865, with sloughing of both wounds, anterior and posterior. June 2nd, patient convalescing; the parts having assumed a healthy appearance. Photographed at Lincoln General Hospital. J.C. McKee, Surgeon U.S.A., in charge.”
