Description |
English: A rounded dome of dark-grey lava called a cinder cone rises above the trees. Crater Rim Historic District. Natural systems and features have both driven and limited development around the crater. The Kilauea Crater Rim area, including the road, has been developed over the past 120 years to highlight and provide access to the forces and features that shape the park. Puu Puai is the large spatter cone formed during the 1959 Kilauea Iki eruption. It rises nearly 200 feet above the rim of Kilauea Iki.
