Notes puttees, RFC (RAF), WW1 Belonged to Group Captain John Seabrook, RFC - RAF John Seabrook was born in 1896 in California and came out to New Zealand as a small child, receiving his education at Avondale School and Auckland Grammar School. During WW1 John Seabrook joined the Royal Flying Corps, serving as a pilot with No 8 Squadron in France 1916-17, and in the Royal Air Force in the Middle East in 1918, with the rank of Captain. During WW2 he commanded the RNZAF Stations at Whenuapai (1940-41) and Hobsonville (1942) and was appointed Air Attache in Washington DC, and then Head of NZ Air Mission, Washington (1942-43) rising to the rank of Air Commodore. In 1919 he founded Seabrook Fowlds Ltd., an agent for Austin cars and trucks, in partnership with his brother, Philip Seabrook, and William Fowlds. In addition to his business and aviation interests, he was active in community service work. He was a founder member of the Auckland Rotary Club in 1924; a trustee of the Royal NZ Foundation for the Blind for 24 years; Deputy Chairman of the Blinded Servicemen's Trust
