On Thursday, October 17, I caused my dragoman to purchase in theFrank bazaar at GrandCairo the following articles,which will be placed in theMuseum on my return. A is a tin pot holdingabout a pint, and to containB, a packet of flour (whichof course is not visible, asit is tied up in brownpaper), and C, a pig-skinbrush of the sort commonlyused in Europe—the wholecosting about 5 piastres, orone shilling sterling. Theywere all the implements needful for this tremendous undertaking. Horses of the Mosaic Arab breed, I mean those animals called Jeru-salem ponies by some in England, by others denominated donkeys, are thecommon means of transport employed by the subjects of Mehemet AllMy excellent friend Bucksheesh Pasha would have mounted me eitheron his favourite horse, or his best dromedary. But I declined those prof-fers—if I fall, I like better to fall from a short distance than a high one.—
