Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Puddle House This thatched likely sixteenth century cottage is up a short lane on the north side of the C road that runs east-west through Lower Chicksgrove. The name Puddle House is inscribed on the lighter rectangular stone on the end of the house near the corner. Puddle may refer to the lane being damp or to having a stream running down it at some time in the past. It is unlikely to refer to puddle, clay mixed with sand or gravel to make it watertight, as this term originated in the mid 18th century. The lane leads into a bridleway that goes to Lady Down.
