The Public Office of Hygiene .(ufficio dhygiene), founded in 1889.has done signal service in Naples. Such institutions with conjoinedhygienic laboratories are being established in all Italian towns of sufficientimportance, the direction being placed in the hands of competent scienti-fic men. Besides the activity of the office in the sventramento ofNaples, the adulteration of foods is controlled by examination in its lab-oratories.
