Public-69CA65 Mount |

Description |
English: A copper alloy stirrup-strap mount, cast with a raised bearded face. A tab extends from the top of the head with a perforation. It seems to have been mounted with an iron band on the back, through the slot at the tops of stirrups and appear to have clasped the stirrup leather to the stirrup to prevent wear from the downwards pressure of the rider. The two lower holes have traces of iron. The reverse has no markings visible. The mount is 39mm in height, 34mm in width and weighs 22grams David Williams attributed the mount to his Class A, Type 9 (Williams 1997, p51-53). These are usually pentagonal, like this example and depict a human facewith interlacing bands around the cheeks. Most of these mounts, like this one, can be described as Anglo-Scandinavian and date from c1020-c1150. |
