Summary
[edit]DescriptionPu o Hiro (Trumpet of Hiro) in Easter Island 2018.jpg |
English: Pu o Hiro (translation: Trumpet of Hiro) is an ancient stone aerophone (1.25 meters high) on the northern coast of Easter Island (aka Isla de Pascua, Rapa Nui). It has small fertility symbols and holes. It was used as a musical instrument in fertility rituals by the Rapa Nui inhabitants. By blowing through the main hole it creates a deep, trumpeting sound to invoke Hiro, the god of rain in Polynesian mythology.
