English: Ptolemy cameo, 115 x 113 mm, c. 278 BC, showing Ptolemaios II and his sister and wife Arsinoë II (date and identification is suject of ongoing discussion). The stone was a jewel on the shrine of the three magis in the Cologne Cathedral. After its theft in 1574, the stone went through numerous hands and finally arrived in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.
Deutsch: Ptolemäer-Kameo, 115 x 113 mm, ca. 278 v. Chr., abgebildet sind Ptolemaios II. und seine Schwester und Gemahlin Arsinoë II (Datierung und Identifizierungen sind weiterhin Gegenstand wissenschaftlicher Debatte). Der Stein war am Dreikönigenschrein im Kölner Dom angebracht und wurde 1574 geraubt. Anschließend gelangte er über mehrere Besitzer in das Kunsthistorische Museum in Wien. |
