Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Blackthorn View A view through a Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa) bush looking down Crawley Road in the direction of Woburn. I am reasonably confident of the ID of this plant as Blackthorn, though it may be a hybrid with another Prunus species. Blackthorn is very common, though for a while I thought it might be a flowering cherry such as Cherry Plum (Prunus cerasifera). In the autumn the answer will be revealed if I return, as blackthorn produces sloes, luscious looking blue-black berries dusted with a yeast bloom - they look inviting but are in fact very bitter ... good for making sloe gin with though !
