Summary
[edit]DescriptionPrunus spinosa - geograph.org.uk - 367519.jpg |
English: Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa) This is a close-up of the little shrub seen in 367523, growing on the opposite side of the road to 367514. I originally thought that this was blackthorn, but then decided that the flowers were too ornate and that it might be a flowering cherry - I'm pretty sure now that my original idea was correct. Normally blackthorn is readily identifiable, with bright white flowers and an absence of leaves contrasting with its black spiky branches. Perhaps this young specimen has not yet developed the "black thorns" that give the plant its name. |
