The Colonial Town 321 Others utilized the well-known landmarks of thetown. Darius Sessions — better known perhaps asDeputy-Governor Sessions — described his shop ason the Main Street between the Court-House andthe Church, and directly opposite the large Button-Wood Tree. There he was ready to supply NewMilk, Cheese, Choice French Brandy, Holland Ge-neva, Cordial Waters, and Sundry Sorts of Wines,together with a general Assortment of West IndiaGoods, Grocery, and many other Articles. A little south of the Deputy Governor, Clark andNightingale advertised a large Assortment of Eng-lish and India Piece Goods; Likewise Stationary andHard Ware ... at their Shop, newly opened, at theSign of the Frying-Pan and Fish, adjoining to theNorth-West Corner of the Court-House Lot, andopposite Oliver Arnold, Esquire.
