Deutsch: 1. Starr-Edwards Herzklappe, Stahlkugel
2. Starr-Edwards Herzklappe, Silikonkugel 3. English: 1. Starr-Edwards Valve, Steel ball
2. Starr-Edwards Valve, Silicone Rubber Ball 3. Smeloff-Cutter Valve, Silicone Rubber Ball In order to simplify x-ray functional diagnostics of the prosthetic cardiac valve the silicone rubber ball is impregnated with barium sulfate for radiopacity. The circular side of the valve is attached to the basis of the heart. Ball and cage reach into the vessel (aorta or pulmonary artery). If the pressure in the heart builds up, the valve opens by movement of the ball away from the heart, the blood flows through the primary, circular opening of the valve and past the ball into the vessel. |
