DescriptionProposed PRT demonstration site - DPLA - 6f752c23cb5a2c7c00b67f23dd85ff40.jpg | Map shows the demonstration route and station locations, overlaid onto a map of existing street network. Other major potential destinations, like hospitals, botanic gardens, and other points of interest, are included. Caption: "The federal government gave the go-ahead Thursday for the first phase of mass transportation demonstration project in Denver [sic]. The initial mile of construction somewhere between Mile High Stadium and downtown Denver will cost $11 million, but completion of the entire 5.5 miles of elevated system may cost over $40 million. Assuming no major complications, the first phase will be in operation by 1975 and the entire route completed by 1977. Announcement of Denver's selection was made at a special luncheon meeting by Sen. Gordon Allott, R-Colo. and John Volpe, secretary of transportation. Denver was chosen from a field of 30 applicants, which was later narrowed to five. Volpe cited factors in picking Denver." | ||||||||||||||||||||
