ng the sub-maxillary groove. (8) Vibration—shaking. (9) Pressure. (10) Hypnotic stroking. In cases of great immobility of the scalp (a hide-bound condition), when necessary, a better hold ofthe scalp may be obtained by grasping the hair be-tween the fingers close to the roots. Care should betaken, however, not to give so great latitude to themovements as to produce unpleasant sensations frompulling the hair. By closely following these directions the best ofresults may be obtained in the way of massage of thescalp. It is this method that is followed by pro-fessional masseurs. The good results obtained arechiefly to be attributed to the fact that this opera-tion brings about a better and more equalized circula-tion of the blood in the scalp. The soothing influenceof the hypnotic stroke is also pleasing and brings aperiod of rest to the course of the blood and thus per-mits it to exercise its full nutritive power upon thetissues.
