Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Project MARTI is a personal development of a bracket design for installing an 80/20 roof rack on a 5th generation Toyota 4Runner.

This is a photo of my first prototype made from ¼ inch plywood, installed on the car to test fit the brackets, hardware and 80/20 extrusion (the final brackets will be ¼ inch steel, which is damned strong). The plywood is not the correct shape, it just has the proposed hole locations. It's a good thing I tested it at this point because the challenge of what I call the "low profile" version is getting the assembly past the satellite radio shark fin antenna. I had to move a few screw holes (and remove a couple as well).

The "high profile" design will be slightly taller, and will allow the rack to be assembled in situ, so the shark fin won't be an issue.

Once I finalize the designs, I'll make the files available somewhere so people who like them can make their own brackets.
