rald Buddhist Temple, the place where the King of Siam wor-ships in Bangkok.! The next motive is a chant of a Buddhisttemple priest (English horn). The racket in a theatre follows. Astreet musician plays on a beautiful-toned Siamese instrument * Mr. Eichheim is known as an uncommonly artistic photographer as well as amusician. t There is a picture of this temple in the National Geographic Magazine of March,1922 (page 250) : The roofs are of Chinese imperial yellow tile bordered withindigo blue, while the pillars are of exquisite mosaic. The centre of interest in thistemple is the emerald Buddha, a green jade figure enthroned under golden umbrellasand surrounded by praying devas. This image was unearthed at Kiong Hai nearlyfive centuries ago and borne to Bangkok. Stolen by invading Cambodians, it wasrecovered by the Siamese army. The temple, the Wat Phra Keo, begun in 17S.5,unfinished until late in 1879, when King Chulalongkorn made a vow to complete it,was dedicated on April 21, 1882.
