Lamond. He played for the first time inpublic at Budapest in 1908. He has played in Vienna, Berlin,Hamburg, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Christiania, Amsterdam, andThe Hague. His first appearance in the United States was in NewYork on October 18, 1920, when his programme included pieces byBach-Busoni, Schubert, Chopin, Scriabin, Grieg, Leschetitzky, Liszt.Mr. Nyiregyhazi has also been a composer from his youth up.Twelve of his compositions—ten pianoforte pieces and two arrange-ments for pianoforte of orchestral works by him—have alreadybeen published. Concerto for Pianoforte, No. 2, in A major . . . Franz Liszt (Born at Raiding, near »&denburg, Hungary, October 22, 1811; died atBayreuth, July 31, 1SS6.) This concerto was sketched in 1839. It was completed and scoredin 1849. There are two manuscripts in the Liszt Museum at Weimar.One bears the date September 13, 1839: the other is dated May 6, BONDS OF THE HIGHEST GRADE HARRIS, FORBES & CO INCORPORATED 35 FEDERAL STREET, BOSTON

1849. Hans von Billow in a letter to Weissheimer stated that therewere two versions of the concerto,—versions that belong to the years1849-50. An edition for two pianofortes was published in Novem-ber, 18G2. The score was published in 18G3 and the orchestra partsin November, 1874. The concerto is dedicated to Hans von Bron-sart,* by whom it was played from manuscript for the first time ata concert for the benefit of the Orchestral Pension Fund in theGrand Ducal Court Theatre, Weimar, January 7, 1857. Liszt con-ducted. His symphonic poem Ce quon entend sur la montagnewas also performed for the first time at this concert. The secondperformance of the concerto was at Berlin, January 14, 1858, inthe Sing-Akademie, when Karl Tausig was the pianist and Billowconducted. The first performance in Boston was at a concert of Theodore *Hans Bronsart von Schellendorf, pianist and composer, was born at Berlin, Feb-ruary 11, 1830.
