ically in size with that of a Chinese orchestra: fourviolins, viola, flute, oboe, pianoforte, bells, and percussion instru-ments—among them a fluctuating tam-tam, small cymbals, a brasstemple bell, fish-head, xylophone, tam-tam, small bells, etc. (Mr.Eichheim had brought Eastern instruments home). The perform-ance took place on October 1, 1921. Mr. Eichheim conducted. Theviolinists were Messrs. Letz, Bachman, Kortschak, and Miss AmyNeill; Mr. Kreiner, viola; George Barrere, flute; Pierre Mathieu,oboe; Percy Grainger, pianist; Messrs. Glassman, Borodkin, Goet-tich, percussion instruments. At ^olian Hall, New York, on November 25, 1921, the Japanesesketch, Entenraku, Korean Sketch, and Siamese Sketch wereplayed at Mme. Eva Gauthiers concert. In the latter two composi-tions Mme. Gauthier sang a voice part. These parts are now givento an English horn. a marimba were added to the instruments. Mr. Eichheim conducted. On January 29, 1922, at a concert of chamber music by the Phila-delphia Orchestra Ensemble in Philadelphia, Nocturnal Impres-sions of Peking, Japanese Nocturne, and Chinese Sketch wereperformed by an orchestra composed of three violins, viola, piccolo,flute, oboe, pianoforte, harp, fish-head, xylophone, fluctuating tam-tam, large tam-tam, and small temple bells. There was no conduc-tor. At one of the Concerts Internationaux de la Libre ilsthetiqueat the Ambassador, New York City, February 11, 1922, the pro-gramme of the performance at Pittsfield was repeated. The playerswere from Mr. Barreres Little Symphony. Mr. Eichheim conducted. The Oriental Impressions as they now stand will be performedthisseason by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
