Description
English: Profile or cross-section of the enceinte of Paris, also known as the Thiers Wall or Enciente de Thiers, which was built in 1840-45. On the left is the earthen rampart with a masonry scarp wall. The ditch is in the centre and on the right is the angled counterscarp with the glacis sloping away. From the "Report on the Art of War in Europe in 1854, 1855, and 1856" by Major Richard Delafield (1798-1873).
