Description

Detail of a Lydian tribute bearer, bas-relief of the northern stairway of the Apadana ( Darius the Great's audience hall) at Persepolis, Achaemenian persian empire capital . Lydia was during the achaemenian era a minor-Asia greek satrapy (persian province governed by a satrap) having Sardes for capital. As all the nations subjected to the empire, the lydians had to bear tributes every year to the king of kings, Persepolis's bas-reliefs describe the tribute bearing by all the nations.

Taken in Persepolis, City of Marvdasht, Fars province, Iran, April 2008.
