Title
Probable Roman steelyard weight, obverse
Description
English: A very worn cast lead object with iron suspension loop, probably a Roman steelyard weight. If this object was biconical in shape originally as typical Roman steelyard weights were (Geake 2001, 67), then it has been severely deformed following old damage. It does however feature the usual iron suspension loop at its apex. Its weight at c. 183g equates very approximately to the Roman weight known as a 'semis', or half pound.
