Title
Private Hudd in military uniform
Description

This is believed to be Herbert Sydney Hudd (1881-1948). Hudd was a chocolate manufacturer in South Australia and a member of the State Parliament from 1912 to 1915. Following his defeat in the 1915 election, he enlisted in the AIF as a private and served on the Western Front from 1916 to 1918. Promoted to lieutenant in 1916, he was awarded the Military Cross in 1917. He returned to South Australia in 1919, married and subsequently resumed his political career which he maintained until his death in 1948. He was knighted in 1937. Hudd was 'regarded as one of the ablest debaters in South Australian public life.'
