Prisoners of war, particularly at Camp Douglas (Chicago), at Johnsons Island, and Camp Cliase (Columbus, Ohio). Those who have seen Confederate troops in the held and Confederate prisoners of war in the North can testify to the fact that in general the latter were clothed better than the former. Rebel prisoners in the North were always supplied with clothing commensurate with their needs. It is also generally familiar to those who had knowledge of prisoners of war that exchanged rebel prisoners were objects of envy to their comrades in the rebel army, on account of their better physical appearance and dress.
