English: Two scenes; the first; a lady seated on a chair, her hands raised to her head in horror and shock, numerous diminutive servants in the room, all engaged in various disobedient activities such as stealing, breaking ornaments, eating and drinking, tipping a baby out of its cradle, accidentally pouring food onto the floor and others; the second; a seated lady interviewing a potential servant, who stands to the right in her shawl and denies her Irish nationality in order to obtain a place, pictures on the wall beyond; illustration to the Brothers Mayhew's "The Greatest Plague of Life; or the Adventures of a Lady in Search of a Good Servant" (1847)
