Summary
[edit]DescriptionPrincipia Resistance Solids Frustum.jpg |
English: The resistance of a frustum (a truncated cone) is derived, also the minimum resistance of a frustum of given base radius and height. The result is given in the Scholium to Section 7 of Book 2 of the Principia, without proof. D. T. Whiteside in ‘The Mathematical Papers of Isaac Newton’, Cambridge University Press, 1967-1981 shows Newton’s method of proof.
