Summary
[edit]DescriptionPrincetown, Plume of Feathers Inn - geograph.org.uk - 1070897.jpg |
English: Princetown: Plume of Feathers Inn This is Princetown's oldest building, dating from 1785, and predating the first Dartmoor prison by some 20 years. It was originally constructed to house workmen building Tor Royal, the nearby estate of Sir Thomas Tyrwhitt, and later served as a coaching inn. It was originally called the Princes Arms in recognition of the ownership of the land by the Duchy of Cornwall and hence the Prince of Wales. However at some stage it was renamed after the plume of feathers in the Prince's coat of arms. |
