Summary
[edit]DescriptionPrinces Street - 1 - geograph.org.uk - 1583397.jpg |
English: Princes Street - 1. From Mansfield Road looking east at the entrance to Princes Street. These houses were built around the 1850s by Barber Walker & Co to accommodate miners, along with further dwellings on The Breach and Engine Lane near Moorgreen Colliery further north. They were a great improvement on the previous single-room thatched miner's cottages. The whole set is known as 'The Buildings' or 'The Squares' and include nearby Albert Street, Wellington Street and Victoria Street (where D H Lawrence was born).
