Summary
[edit]DescriptionPrince of Peace Lutheran Church, Race Street, Over-the-Rhine, Cincinnati, OH - 51869714437.jpg |
English: Built in 1871, this Gothic Revival-style church was built to house the congregation of what was then known as Trinity Lutheran Church, later known as Concordia Lutheran Church, and now known as Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, and stands on Race Street in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. The building features a red brick exterior with limestone trim, a protruding front bay with a front door featuring a brick and limestone surround with buttresses, a gothic arched decorative trim panel, and front gable, flanked by two oxeye windows, with three gothic arched stained glass windows above and brick corbeling below the front gable roof, with a limestone panel featuring the original German name of the congregation at the top, with the central bay flanked by two lancet stained glass windows and octagonal pinnacles with buttresses, with brick corbeling towards the roofline mimicking machicolations, and a square base for the octagonal tower, featuring gothic arched vents and gables on each face, and side facades with buttresses and lancet stained glass windows, and a rear facade with an apse and rose window. The building is a contributing structure in the Over-the-Rhine Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. |
