日本語:小渕総理は総理官邸でアナン国際連合事務総長と会談し、国連改革、東チモール問題等について意見交換した。総理は、「国連での来秋のミレニアム・サミットを、安保理改革をはじめとする国連改革のモメンタムを高める好機として活用したい」と述べ、国連改革の必要性を強調した。また、東チモール問題について、総理は、国連東チモール暫定行政機構(UNTAET)の設立を歓迎し、わが国としても資金面及び人材面まで積極的に貢献する考えを示すとともに、人的貢献について、高橋・国際協力事業団参与等がUNTAETの活動に貢献することを期待する旨述べた。このほか、総理は、国連要員等の安全確保や国連における邦人職員数の増大等について要請を行った。
English: Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi met with United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. They exchanged views on a range of topics, including U.N. reform and the East Timor situation. The Prime Minister stressed the importance for U.N. reform, saying he hoped that the Millennium Summit to be held in conjunction with the U.N. General Assembly session in the autumn of 2000 would be utilized to increase the momentum for Security Council and other U.N. reforms. In regard to East Timor, he welcomed the establishent of the U.N. Transitional Administration in East Timor and expressed Japan's intention to make both financial and personnel contributions, adding that he expected that Akira Takahashi, Special Advisor to the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, would make a significant contribution as the newly appointed Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General for Humanitarian Assistance and Emergency Rebahilitation of UNTAET. The Prime Minister also requested that the U.N. ensure the security of U.N. personnel and increase the number of Japanese staff members.
