Summary

[edit]
Description

The morning is being spent in Greenwich to the east of central London.

In the 1880s, it was decided that the Prime Meridian, from which all longitude coordinates are determined, would be drawn through here. This is the place where one can stand in both the Western and Eastern hemispheres at the same time, as this East Asian tourist is doing.

Also inside this observatory is an atomic clock that keeps the standard time - Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) or Universal Time (UTC) - for the entire world. Interestingly enough, when the European Union enters Summer Time (Daylight Saving Time), London itself is one hour ahead of the Greenwich Mean Time.
