Damrak Amsterdam. Ontstaan uit de Austin Seven en Morris Minor rolt de 1e Mini in 1959 uit 2 verschillende fabrieken. John Cooper was de man die de krachtbron van de Mini 2 jaar later opvoerde. De eerste Mini Cooper zag in 1961 het licht. Na het ‘opruimen’ van de merknamen Morris en Austin werd de auto onder de naam Rover verkocht. In 1994 nam BMW het noodlijdende Rover over. Dit bleek echter een miskoop. BMW heeft het bedrijf in 2002 dan ook van de hand gedaan. Wel behield het de rechten op de Mini. De Mini One en de Cooper (S), die BMW sinds 2002 in een retro versie op de markt brengt, zijn volledig nieuw ontworpen auto’s die niets met de oude Mini’s van doen hebben. De auto wordt wel nog steeds in Oxford in elkaar gezet. |
