Description

1947 Silver NHHC 1979-96-C Headquarters Artifact Collection, Naval History and Heritage Command

This silver ceremonial boatswain’s call and attached lanyard was presented to Vice Admiral Alfred E. Montgomery to commemorate his tenure as Commander, First Task Fleet. The boatswain’s call is inscribed and reads ‘Vice Admiral A. E. Montgomery, U.S.N. / Commander FIRST Task Fleet / 5 September 1946 - 14 August 1947’ on the right side and ‘This Boatswain's Call was used in piping you / over the side when you relinquished / command of the FIRST Task Fleet’ on the left side.
