Description
English: Cardinal Richelieu's theatre in the Palais-Cardinal in Paris during the performance of a play in 1643. From left to right: Richelieu (according to Powell, Gaston d'Orléans), Louis XIII, Anne of Austria, and the dauphin (the future Louis XIV). Musicians (trumpet, lute, guitar, cornetto) are playing in the second level gallery on the right. The instruments being played are identified in Powell 2000, pp. xv, 16. Powell dates the image to 1642.
