Description
Français : Église de Saint-Jean-de-Brébeuf, comté de Mégantic . - 1938
« Longtemps appelé Lower Ireland à cause de la présence anglophone dans le canton, le territoire actuel de St-Jean-de-Brébeuf est constitué en paroisse catholique en 1930 et en municipalité en 1946 issue d'une partie des territoires du canton d'Irlande nord, Halifax sud, Inverness et Leeds. Colonisée d'abord par les anglophones au début du 19e siècle, la région accueille beaucoup plus tard les Canadiens français. Avant la construction de leur église, les fidèles catholiques devaient se rendre à St-Adrien-d'Irlande. En 1920, la mission de St-Jean-d'Irlande est finalement créée. La première église voit le jour en 1921. Une fois la paroisse St-Jean-de-Brébeuf érigée, on ouvre le cimetière et on reconstruit au côté de celui-ci, en 1964, une nouvelle église. » – regiondethetford.chaudiereappalaches.com
