Summary
[edit]DescriptionPredominant Western World Major Christian Branch by country.svg |
English: A Western country is coloured either Orthodox, Protestant, or Catholic, if it counts more than 50% more members than any second.
Note: in fact, Christianity is taxonomically divided in the following 6 branches: w:Church of the East, w:Oriental Orthodoxy, w:Eastern Orthodoxy, w:Roman Catholicism, w:Protestantism, and w:Restorationism. Most recent available data is used. Data and sources used: Australia 2011: Orthodox 2%, Protestant 28%, Catholic 25%. More recent data reports a wide Catholic predominancy, but this data doesn't account for the other many non-Anglican Protestant, and also it notes that the question on religious affiliation was optional, so I used 2011 data which reports an even context. Belgium 2019: Orthodox 1%, Protestant 3%, Catholic 54% Cyprus 2019: Orthodox 95%, Protestant 0%, Catholic 1% Czech Republic 2019: Orthodox 1%, Protestant 1%, Catholic 25% Denmark 2019: Orthodox 1%, Protestant 62%, Catholic 2% Estonia. Data is contradictory: in 2000 national data reports an even context, while in 2011 some report an Orthodox predominancy and some a Protestant (evidently because of renewed nearby Russian immigration into the EU). Most recent data by the EU shows a wide Orthodox predominancy, but given the 2011 contradictions I left it gray. Finland 2019: Orthodox 2%, Protestant 60%, Catholic 1% France 2019: Orthodox 2%, Protestant 2%, Catholic 41% Germany 2019: Orthodox 2%, Protestant 24%, Catholic 30% Greece 2019: Orthodox 94%, Protestant 0%, Catholic 1% Greenland 2010: Orthodox <0.1%, Protestant 95%, Catholic 0.2% Hungary 2019: Orthodox 6%, Protestant 0%, Catholic 80% Iceland 2019: Orthodox n.a., Protestant >60%, Catholic n.a. Ireland 2019: Orthodox 2%, Protestant 3%, Catholic 78% Latvia 2019: Orthodox 20%, Protestant 20%, Catholic 23% Lituania 2019: Orthodox 3%, Protestant 0%, Catholic 83% Luxemburg 2019: Orthodox 1%, Protestant 2%, Catholic 56% Malta 2019: Orthodox 2%, Protestant 2%, Catholic 83% Netherlands 2019: Orthodox 2%, Protestant 15%, Catholic 17% Norway 2021: Orthodox n.a., Protestant >60%, Catholic n.a. Poland 2019: Orthodox 1%, Protestant 1%, Catholic 86% Portugal 2019: Orthodox 1%, Protestant 1%, Catholic 81% Romania 2019: Orthodox 87%, Protestant 2%, Catholic 6% Slovakia 2019: Orthodox 1%, Protestant 8%, Catholic 71% Spain 2019: Orthodox 4%, Protestant 1%, Catholic 46% Sweden 2019: Orthodox 2%, Protestant 33%, Catholic 1% United Kingdom 2018: Orthodox n.a., Protestant 15%, Catholic 7%. Data is contradictory however (in 2019 a EU study reported an even context).
