Description

At 3am on December 3, 2004 people gathered at the Eureka Memorial in Eureka Park, Ballarat for a vigil to commemorate the military and police attack on the Eureka stockade. About 60 people attended the 150th anniversary dawn vigil.

Graeme Dunstan, the organiser of the Eureka dawn lantern walk, arrived to setup his banners and lanterns at about 2am. Shortly after 3am Joe Toscano from the Anarchist Media Institute gave a short introduction recounting the story of Eureka. Then people took turns in talking on the meaning of Eureka rebellion and its relevance today. A powerful, direct and moving experience. Everyone was given an opportunity to express themselves. Allviewpoints were listened to.

The vigil finished just before 6am allowing people to join the official ceremony.

This panorama was taken using a tripod and is composed of two stitched together images using the Hugin program.
