Steve Tucker, an electrical engineer with the U.S. Army Natick Research, Development and Engineering Center in Massachusetts checks his multimeter on a power module of a solar shade system at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti. Photo by Rich Bartell, U.S. Army Africa Public Affairs Tucker and Maj. Tim Franklin of U.S. Army Africa recently took part in a limited military user assessment of the system that produces two kilowatts of electricity daily. “Overall, I’m pleased how the unit has weathered the high winds, exposure to ultraviolet light and the harsh conditions of Djibouti. It’s performed extremely well,” Tucker said.
