Description

Electrical engineer Steve Tucker takes a first look at one of the solar shade modules after weathering more than a year in the desert climes of Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti.

Three such modules were coated with mud and dust and continued to work without repair and little maintenance. Tucker is an electrical engineer from the U.S. Army Natick Research, Development and Engineering Center who was conducting a limited military user assessment on the solar shade that produces clean, silent usable energy from the sun. Tucker worked with Maj. Tim Franklin who is assigned to U.S. Army Africa who developed the user requirement for the solar shade.
