| Description |
English: Power house, Whitchurch Hospital A pair of Belliss & Morcom inverted vertical compound enclosed steam engines driving modern alternators. The engines were of 1906 vintage and were in regular use until 1985 (just missed them). They were removed in 1987, allegedly for re-use (quite a few were exported). These were of 220 bhp at 428 rpm (a common speed for 50 hz alternators driven by steam engines). |
