Description

O edifício onde está hoje inserida a "Pousada dos Lóios" é o antigo Mosteiro de S. João Evangelista ou dos Lóios - da congregação dos cónegos regrantes (cónegos azuis). Foi fundado em 1485 por D. Rodrigo Melo, 1º Conde de Olivença e construído sob licença de D. João II, em terrenos onde tinha existido parte do Castelo de Évora, de origem Árabe. Este Castelo estava em ruína completa pois sofreu um grande incêndio aquando da revolução de 1383-85, devido às lutas dos apoiantes de D. João, Mestre de Avis, que viria a ascender ao trono como D. João I.

Já no século XVIII, este Mosteiro sofreu muitas alterações mandadas executar pelo Padre Mestre José de Santa Marta, já que ao seu estado ruinoso, se adicionaram os danos causados pelo terramoto de 1755, que atingiu gravemente o edifício e a cidade de Évora. Em 1834, com a ordem real de encerramento de todos os Mosteiros e Conventos de Portugal, este Mosteiro fica desabitado durante bastante tempo. Em 1965, após as remodelações e adaptações necessárias, o Mosteiro abre de novo as suas portas como Pousada de Portugal.

Uma particularidade: os quartos são as antigas Celas dos Cónegos Regrantes, por isso são quase todos diferentes entre si. <a href="http://www.portugalvirtual.pt/pousadas/evora/pt/index.html" rel="nofollow">www.portugalvirtual.pt/pousadas/evora/pt/index.html</a>
