Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Poundbury, Roman aqueduct The course of the aqueduct can be made out, running from mid left to beneath the bare field, creating a slightly sunken terrace. The aqueduct supplied water from Frampton to Dorchester; operating by gravity, it had to follow the course of coombes and was considerably longer than as the crow flies. The aqueduct consisted of clay sides and was covered; it was used from about AD60 to 160. Recent research indicates that it was not as long-lived as indicated at http://www.pastscape.org.uk/hob.aspx?hob_id=959813&sort=4&search=all&criteria=dorchester
