Summary
[edit]DescriptionPoulaphouca Falls and Bridge - geograph.org.uk - 874350.jpg |
English: Poulaphouca Falls and Bridge Sometimes spelt Pollaphuca also, this waterfall on the Liffey was once one of the best known in the country, but was reduced to a trickle when the hydroelectric scheme was built in the 1940's. Unless the reservoir upstream gets too full that is, in which case the ESB will open the floodgates and the falls are briefly restored to their former glory. The bridge above was completed in 1790 and is still in front-line service on the N81 Dublin to Tullow road (where it constitutes a notorious accident black spot). |
