English: This is a special type of stew prepared over 3-4 hours. Food is placed in a black cast iron pot and normally the heat is derived through burning wood or gas. This is a popular traditional dish for Afrikaans speaking people in South Africa but is enjoyed by everyone.
Potjiekos ("pot food") can be made with chicken, lamb or beef as the major meat source. Vegetables such as (mielies) corn, carrots, mushrooms, potatoes and others are used. It is usually dished up with rice but not required.
