Description

The Potato Man was originally part of the 2006 Sioux Falls Sculpture Walk. It was installed in the southwest corner of McKennan Park in 2008 as part of the Park's centennial. The sculpture is meant to pay tribute to the large Irish population in Sioux Falls. The bricks around the Potato Man display dozens of family names of the people who purchased the sculpture from New York artist Susan Giessler. Helen McKennan, who died in 1906, gave her house and 20 acres to the city of Sioux Falls to become the jewel of the city's park system.
