Title
Postmedieval pipe tamper: erotic design
Description
English: A cast copper alloy pipe tamper of 18th-century date. This example, like many of the period, has an erotic theme. It consists of a long thin, segmented stem with a flared, circular base. Above the stem is a caricatured nude female figure. The base of the tamper bears the crude monographic graffitto 'RH', inverted so to act as a stamp. The tamper measures 68.1mm x 15.3mm, with a basal diameter of 9.9, and weighs 22g.
