Summary
[edit]DescriptionPostduif.jpg |
English: The homing pigeon is a variety of domesticated Rock Dove (Columba livia) that has been selectively bred to be able to find its way home over extremely long distances. Because any pigeon generally returns to its own nest and its own mate, it was relatively easy to selectively breed the birds that repeatedly found their way home over long distances. The birds can carry messages (frequently written on cigarette paper) in a small tube attached to one leg. Flights as long as 2,718 km have been recorded by exceptional birds in competition pigeon racing. Their average flying speed over moderate distances is around 50 km/h, but they can achieve bursts of speed up to 100 km/h. This kind of pigeon has special features in their anatomy like color of eyes and pupil size, wing's feather configuration, walking style, wings flap speed etc. people will select them carefully in order to get the best bird quality for joining to the bird racing competition. One thing must take in a note, the male pigeon will perform fast flying to his female when mating season come. In this period, people will bring their bird for racing on the field. People will call the male bird from a distance by waving female bird in the hand. |
