Description
English: Unknown date of photo although the store was built in 1939.

Excerpt from 'The Oxen and the Axe' - a publication of the CDHS available from the CDHS online bookstore:
'In 1934 Mr. and Mrs. Arnold York purchased a small building from Mr. Jack Pringle of Arden who later was the local Member of Parliament. Mrs. York states that at the time, they thought that if they cleared $1 /day they could make a living. At that time they sold mainly gas, oil, tires and a few canned goods, but later switched to groceries.

In 1939 they built the present store (photo above) and operated it until 1968 when they sold it to Mr. and Mrs. Jim McDermott. They Yorks also operated a snack bar but later closed it. Mr. York was also a School Board Trustee, Councillor and Relief Officer for the area.'
