Sent by a nurse, Margaret Ripley, to her sister back in England. Note that it certainly says Miss Ripley (many other cards to this address were to her mother, Mrs Ripley), and although posted to the family address it has been re-routed to Nutfield House, Kenley, Surrey. As far as I can tell (corrections and additions welcome) this reads: "Many thanks for letter received all right no extra to pay - perhaps they can come free altogether. Sorry mother is not well hope as soon as house is quiet she will be alright again. Mind you save all the PC I send this is of ward upstairs with the 2 sisters & the Head & Orderlies. We have now been ordered to Bordeaux still write here till I let you know not keen on going by I suppose we must. Weather is awful & rain all day. Received Sph???? yesterday. Love to all. Mar" Little did she know when she told her sister to save the postcards that they would end up getting shared across the world nearly 100 years later! Note that 8th December was a Tuesday. On Saturday 5th she had written to her mother from Le Havre or thereabouts, saying she was going to Paris on Thursday. I can only assume then that plans were changed, but notably this image is likely to be in the Le Havre area.
