Description

A view of the south side of the Common in Union, Maine, as it appeared around the turn of the 20th century. The trees on the Common can be seen on the left.

The store with the horse and buggy in front is N.D. Robbins General Store, which was opened by Nathan Robbins in 1877.

The Robbins House, still standing and currently occupied by the Union Historical Society, is the house to the far left, in the background.

This postcard is postmarked and dated September 9, 1905, and is addressed to Mrs. Howard Whitten in Belfast, Maine.

The message on the front reads: "Encountered a record-breaking rainfall in Camden. a bit rough on boat but got home none the worse for it all. Thanks for yours and Howard's kindness. Lovingly, Ida B."
